Board certified Neurology
I believe in using science to optimize patient treatment and wellbeing, and I strive to treat all of my patients with respect and care. I appreciate the constant progression of medical research and the hope of new treatments in the future. I enjoy educating my patients about their medical problems and options so that they can determine the best path forward for them.
I grew up in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Chicago, Illinois, before attending medical school in Ireland. Then, I completed my residency and a fellowship in Cleveland, Ohio, before moving to the greater Seattle area. My fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in sleep medicine was a valuable learning experience. Both my wife and I come from large families, and currently we have five children who we cherish deeply. I love medicine because it brings together science and people, and I chose to specialize in neurology because to me, there is no more interesting part of the body than the brain. I chose to join the Washington Permanente Medical Group because of the organization’s excellent staff and philosophy of care.
I like to stay active by lifting, running, playing tennis, hiking, and fishing. My family and I work out at the gym and try to include play-based sports a few times a week - this improves our moods, sets a good example for the kids, and further develops our relationships. My amazing wife also made up our evening ritual: just before going to bed, our kids, my wife, and I each tell each other something we are grateful for and our favorite part of the day. We find ourselves happier simply by being more appreciative of the little things we are lucky to have.
