My Care Philosophy

My philosophy of care is to put myself in my patients' shoes, and empower them to participate in their own care. I love the fact that when I see patients for eye care, I am caring for the whole person as well as their vision and eye health. The scope of practice has increased over the years to include much more than glasses and contacts. I am especially interested in geriatric care. I chose to practice at Kaiser Permanente because I wanted to focus solely on the care of my patients, and work in a group practice where I can interact with multiple specialties. I love being able to focus on my patients.

About Me

I was born in Seoul, Korea, and grew up in the New York suburbs. I moved to the Northwest to complete a residency program at the Portland/Vancouver Veterans Medical Center. I am married, and we have two daughters. My love of science and helping people put me on the path to a career in health care. I have been wearing glasses since I was eight, and visited my eye doctor frequently. It’s so rewarding to help people see. I have participated in multiple volunteer missions abroad with the Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity group, which provides free eye exams and glasses to those in need.

How I Thrive

Our favorite vacation spot is Maui, where my family has gone annually since the girls were babies. I played varsity tennis in high school and college, and now the four of us play tennis anywhere we can find a court. I am also a huge soccer mom. We have traveled all over the country for soccer tournaments. I also practice hot yoga. It keeps me balanced, strong, and flexible. It’s also good for a mental reset, and living a balanced life.
